CAVERN DIVING

The Yucatan Peninsula is home of the underwater largest cave system in the world, it is believed that an asteroid impacted somewhere in the greater Caribbean basin, ground here is limestone and a composition of carbonate and soluble rocks that let water pass through them creating underground rivers, closed and open underwater caves and CENOTES (sinkholes). Now we know these systems all over the Peninsula are interconnected.

Cavern diving is entering another wolrd of amazing stalactites and stalagmites that are witnesses from another age and era, when the Mayan considered cenotes sacred and depended on these systems for water supply, large tunnels and chambers through the cavern open a wide or narrow passage through formations of rock and roots.

Visibility in these waters is unbelievable.

Cavern and Cave Diving are not the same, a cavern dive is defined by the penetration of light from the ceilings. A cave dive is completely closed with no light penetration at any point. Cave Diving requieres specific training and equipment. Cavern Diving's only requierement is to be an Open Water Certified Diver with some diving experience, please contact us for more information on the subject. Cave Diving is available.
